Why Oled Technology is an Excellent Choice for Home Theaters and Media Rooms

You may have heard of OLED technology but aren’t sure exactly how it differs from other display technology. OLED is used in many displays, including tablets, computers, and smartphones, but perhaps it shines brightest in large TV displays for home theaters and media rooms. In this blog, we’ll explain the advantages of OLED tech for media and also talk about an alternative when you want a really big screen size for a larger space. Please keep reading!

Difference Between OLED and LED

When it comes to OLED versus LED, you might think they're pretty similar, but they're almost as different as night and day. OLED does its thing pixel by pixel, with each little pixel lighting up on its own. OLED in TV displays is prized for accurate, vibrant colors that make your eyes pop. LEDs, on the flip side, rely on a backlight system, shining light from behind those LCD screens. OLED technology most often outshines LED for deep blacks in dark scenes, so often found in cinematography. OLED also excels with sports, as it handles motion very well without artifacts.

Stunning Picture Quality

The biggest advantage of OLED displays is not having to rely on a backlight. Each tiny pixel in an OLED screen shines its own light, giving total control over colors and brightness. This is why OLED displays are a popular choice for movie enthusiasts. LED sets need to have a backlight that is highly controllable to match the organic way OLED creates light, and they don’t compete well except in the most expensive models.

Infinite Contrast Ratio

OLED displays have an off-the-charts contrast ratio. When a pixel is supposed to be black, it's truly black. When you have dark pixels next to those that are all lit up, the images leap off the screen with depth and realism. Contrast and color, along with HDR processing, are critical for making the most of today’s content.

The Projector Alternative

While OLED displays are superb for home theater and media rooms, they currently max out at 97 inches. At that size, they are very expensive, especially when compared to projector alternatives. If you’re looking for a larger image for your home theater or media room that’s 100 inches or more, a projector like the Epson Pro Cinema series is a great choice, with a laser light source, excellent color, and unbelievable contrast for that immersive experience.

These projectors are in a league of their own, delivering visuals that are sure to blow your mind. From spot-on color accuracy to stunning 2700 lumens of brightness, they have it all. Even more so, the picture processing gives you detailed images that will make every movie night feel like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. And with a projector, you can go much larger with your screen, ideal for larger theaters.
